There's a gap between preparing for baby and preparing for motherhood

You've probably already started the nursery. Maybe there's a stroller in the corner and a stack of tiny onesies folded somewhere.

That kind of nesting comes naturally. But there's another kind of preparation most mothers never get — the kind that supports you in the days and weeks after birth, when the visitors stop coming and the meals stop showing up.

If you don't have a tight-knit village nearby, postpartum can feel like you were fully supported one day and completely on your own the next.

This checklist exists to close that gap — so you walk into postpartum with a plan already in motion, not scrambling to figure it out while you're healing and caring for a newborn.

Why I created this

I'm Kourtney Valencia — a postpartum and motherhood coach, doula, and mother of five, with a nursing background.

Each of my five births taught me something new: two C-sections, an epidural birth in a hospital, a home birth, and a free birth abroad. Every one of them shifted how I understood birth, healing, and what mothers actually need in the season after.

What I learned again and again is this: pregnancy comes with endless support — appointments, classes, people checking in constantly. Then birth happens, and for many mothers, the support quietly disappears just when they need it most.

This checklist is the resource I wish someone had handed me before my first birth.
